The political arm of the environmental movement in America's leading environmental state, the California League of Conservation Voters (CLCV) is the nation's oldest grassroots environmental political action organization. In its 40th year, CLCV uses sophisticated campaign tools to help elect pro-environment officials - and to hold them accountable for passing legislation to protect health, communities and the environment.
CLCV publishes the annual California Environmental Scorecard, which rates the actions of every state legislator and the governor on the state's environmental priorities each legislative year.
Position Overview:
The Legislative Affairs Manager serves as CLCV's primary liaison with the legislature, and works with CLCV Education Fund staff to support the Education Fund's Green California process. This position will occasionally travel to attend meetings in Oakland and Los Angeles.
Reports to: Political Director
Responsibilities:
Legislative:
- Serve as CLCV's primary liaison with the legislature
- Provide recommendations and input on legislative positions for CLCV
- Lead development and implementation of CLCV's legislative accountability campaigns
- Assist in production of CLCV Scorecard content
- Provide written updates for the CLCV Program Committee, prepare materials and participate in committee meetings
- Represent the organization to an array of groups including administration and elected officials, nonprofit community, political community, funders, and the press
- Occasionally serve as spokesperson for the organization
- Assist in writing member communications regarding legislation?
Green CA:
- Support implementation of the CLCV Education Fund Green CA Program in coordination with CLCV Education Fund Government Affairs Manager including:
o organization of 2-3 social receptions per year for policymakers and participants in Green CA
o Organization of annual Green CA Advocacy Day and Green CA Summit
o Monitoring the Green CA participant listservs and coordinating informational documents relating to Green CA - Partner with other staff to facilitate strategic outreach opportunities with allied constituencies
- Partner with other staff to facilitate internal briefings on complex issues within the environmental community
- Conduct targeted education, outreach and relationship-building activities with policymakers in coordination and cooperation with CLCV Political, Program and Education Fund staff
- Manage and update the CLCV priority legislation list
- Other responsibilities as assigned?
Qualifications:?
Required Skills:
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in the field of state or federal environmental policy or advocacy
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadline-driven projects
- Skilled at developing and maintaining relationships with coalition partners?

- Has a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent experience.
- Fluency in English and Spanish preferred?
